About the organisation
Kurdish Human Rights Project (KHRP) is an independent, non-political human rights organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of the human rights of all persons in the Kurdish regions of Turkey , Iraq , Iran , Syria and elsewhere, irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, gender or other belief or opinion. Founded in 1992 in London , it is a registered charity working to improve human rights for both Kurds and non-Kurds.
Aspects of KHRP's work include providing legal representation in cases before the European Court of Human Rights and submission of complaints to UN mechanisms on behalf of victims of human rights violations, including extra-judicial killings, deaths in custody, torture or ill-treatment including sexual torture, unfair trials, violations of freedom of expression, of assembly or of association. To the people in the Kurdish regions, particularly the most marginalised groups including women, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and members of minority groups, the cases afford access to justice and redress when it has been denied to them domestically.
Other aspects of KHRP's work include delivering training to victims of human rights violations and their defenders in the Kurdish regions; sending fact-finding missions to the regions; observing trials to monitor rule of law standards; the production and dissemination of publications and other materials to raise awareness of the human rights situation in the Kurdish regions and remedies for rights violations; and advocacy surrounding the relationship between the environment and human rights.
KHRP employs a small team in its London office and works with partner organisations in the Kurdish regions.
KHRP recruits interns throughout the year to work on its diverse projects and activities. Interns are a valued and integral part of the organisation, and we welcome applicants of any race, ethnic origin, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, age or religion. The organisation encourages applicants from the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and the Caucasus who would commonly have experience of human rights law at undergraduate or postgraduate level or in other capacities. They should also have a good grasp of written and spoken English as well as strong IT skills. Interns are encouraged to provide feedback on their experiences whilst at KHRP, both during the internship and after they have returned home.
